Construction Updates

June 16 - the I-59 Southbound  detour has been removed. Wide loads over 12 feet and loads over 14’-1” high will be required to continue south on U.S. 11 at the U.S. 11/431 intersection to State Route 77 South to re-enter I-59 at Exit 181 as presently signed.

June 11 - Weather permitting, beginning Monday, June 14, at 7 a.m., both lanes of Interstate 59 South will be closed at Exit 205. All traffic will be required to detour to U.S. Highway 11 South in Collinsville to U.S. Highway 431 South in Attalla and re-enter I-59 at exit 183.

Wide loads over 12 feet and loads over 14’-1” high will be required to continue south on U.S. 11 at the U.S. 11/431 intersection to State Route 77 South to re-enter I-59 at Exit 181 as presently signed.

 The southbound roadway is expected to be closed until Thursday, June 17 for paving.  

June 4, 2010 - Weather permitting, beginning Tuesday, June 8 at approximately at 7 a.m., both lanes of I-59 North will be closed at Exit 183. All traffic will be required to detour to U.S. Highway 11 through Attalla and re-enter I-59 at Exit 205 near Collinsville. 

The northbound roadway is expected to be closed until Friday, June 11 for paving. After paving is completed in the northbound lanes, the southbound lanes will be closed for paving. Details of the southbound closure will be released in the coming weeks.

May 21, 2010 - Work to prepare the northbound lane for asphalt paving is complete. The project will commence in the near future after Design crews  finalize plans for grading. The abnormal rainy weather experienced over the winter months caused some elevation problems, which is what Design is going over at this time to ensure the highest quality job can will done.

Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this construction to improve Alabama’s roadways.   

April 9, 2010 - Work continues on Progress 59. Within the next 2 to 3 weeks, asphalt will be placed the entire length of project on the Northbound roadway with concrete pouring to follow.

Loads over 12 feet wide on I-59 in the project area will be required to detour. Northbound wide loads must exit at Exit 181 on to State Route 77 and travel north to U.S. Highway 11, continue north to State Route 68 and then travel east to I-59 at Exit 205 in Collinsville. Southbound wide loads on I-59 will detour at Exit 205 to U.S. Highway 11 as designated.
